The Iraqi Civil Defense Corps took over the American positions in Khaldiyah, 50 miles northwest of Baghdad, under an agreement with local Shiekhs
Lt. Col. Hammad Shahir Sarhan of the Iraqi Civil Defense Corps, told that his division flew the Iraqi flag as they took over from U.S. troops which moved to their main base in Habbaniyah.
Iraqis citizens of Khalidyah swept into the streets to rejoice, throwing stones as the Marines passed."
